TO FEATURE: THOM COLLINS SUBJECT: WHERE DO YOU FIND GOD OR YOUR SPIRITUALITY? DATE: OCTOBER 14, 1998 TIME: 10:00 EST, 9:00 CST MTV's News Unfiltered airs four times each year. The program consists of RAW news footage produced and directed by individuals chosen by MTV. *Tom Colvin, a/k/a Thom Collins, is an internationally and nationally known model, performer and HIV+ activist. Thom's comfort and candid expressions regarding his birth as a homosexual human being have been a source of controversy. Certain to stir many emotions, Thom is given the opportunity to share his spirituality and rebaptism. Unabashed in his personal commitment to his own spirituality Thom shares his spiritual experiences to help alleviate the shame often borne by homosexuals, bisexuals and transgender people. Recent attacks on the rights of homosexuals in the united states and throughout the world have reached historic proportions. These assaults pose a threat beyond that of a peaceful co-existence. Rather, the right to live, in a literal sense is threatened. Thom has taken the MTV camera into his own home, his personal 15 year spousal relationship. The lives of his siblings, nieces, nephews and stepchildren. The streets, businesses, and churches of various denominations. What Thom assumed predictable, became a journey that has profoundly affected him personally. His own spirituality first questioned, then reaffirmed, is now stronger than in his entire life. Thom became gravely aware of the peril that faces homosexuals, bisexuals and frankly any human being that does not fit a mold dictated and judged by certain institutions. Institutions designed by men, with agendas unique to their architects Recent full page adds funded by the Christian Coalition, otherwise known as "reclaiming America", promote their agenda in the most dangerous of all ways. Like a trojan horse, these "saviour of souls" reach out. However, the help offered is tantamount to asking someone to change the color of their skin. The pandering of hate and the elimination of decades of progress for homosexuals is the desired result of "these trojan horses". The message of healing and abstinence, compared to that of alcoholism or drug addiction used when reaching out "loving hands" to homosexuals. Do not miss this exciting and poignant show. Every straight, gay and bisexual individual will find this program provocative, stimulating much needed dialog in these very troubling times.
